Public Housing

Public housing was established to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly and persons with disabilities.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development administers Federal aid and Miami-Dade Public Housing and Community Development manages the housing for low-income residents at rents they can afford.

Miami-Dade Public Housing and Community Development (PHCD) is responsible for more than 9,000 units of public housing.

Miami-Dade Public Housing and Community Development is actively engaged in developing accessible housing for persons with disabilities.

Section 8 / Housing Choice Voucher Program

The housing choice voucher program provides assistance on behalf of very low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled. Participants find their own housing in the private market and are not limited to units located in subsidized housing projects.

Miami-Dade Public Housing and Community Development receive federal funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to administer the voucher program.

The Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Information Submission registration is closed.

This federally-funded, housing rental program provides assistance to very low-income individual and families in privately-owned, rehabilitated, multifamily buildings.

Partner Portal is an online tool for Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) landlords to manage their information with Miami-Dade Public Housing and Community Development.

The Moderate Rehabilitation Single Room Occupancy Program provides project-based rental assistance in privately-owned rehabilitated buildings on behalf of very low and low-income single, homeless individuals.

About Us

We manage more than 6,500 public housing apartments and provide financial help through the federal Section 8 program to more than 19,000 families.

Our support services include assisted living facilities for the elderly and self-sufficiency programs for our tenants.

We rely on federal and state grant programs to fund our programs. We work closely with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) on our public housing and, with the State of Florida, the development of affordable housing.
